In 2012, Israel Adesanya embarked on his professional fighting career, competing in various countries including New Zealand, Australia, and China. Two years later, in 2014, he inked a significant contract with the Glory promotion company, making history as the first New Zealander to join their roster. His debut bout under the Glory banner saw him face Belgian fighter Filip Verlinden at Glory 15 in Istanbul, Turkey, resulting in a unanimous points decision loss for Adesanya.
In the second round, he emerged victorious and secured the Performance of the Night bonus. During The Ultimate Fighter 27 Finale, he squared off against Brad Tavares, dominating the contest and securing a unanimous decision win, which also marked his second Performance of the Night accolade.
